I stayed at Domio
Here my experience and why I prefer the comfort of an apartment over a standardized hotel room
We live in an incredible time. New innovative, tech-savvy ways of traveling, cooking, shopping, and dating are becoming available daily. A decade ago, I became an early Airbnb adopter — an avid traveler and an active host. I visited fantastic spots in Turino, Italy, Santa Monica, US, and Herceg Novi, Montenegro. I have made great friends with my returning Airbnb tenants from Jerusalem and Dubai.
But I live in a cold and snowy place, escaping a six-month-long winter is a highly welcomed requirement for my survival. This year when the heavy snowfall and cold wind hit the city once again, I decided to look for something new.
Owning a vacation condo is a lot of money and a lot of work. Maintenance, condo fees, and of course, a commitment to one destination only are expected for snowbirds who choose to own a place in the south. All-included resorts are growing increasingly bothersome. The never-ending carousel of look-alike Carribian resorts is a repetitive, uninspiring, and dull existence. On vacation, I do not mind cooking my own meals, sweeping my floors, and washing my towels. That is why a new service allowing you to book a luxury curated apartment Domio sounds like a great option. The best of both worlds: Airbnb and a hotel room.
Domio just launched a newly built luxury aparthotel in Miami, Florida. My decision was instantaneous. I booked directly at www.domio.com and got hefty and well appreciated, the first-time buyer, a fifteen percent discount. I added a special request to accommodate an early check-in, possibly. A couple of uncomplicated and straightforward clicks later, my Domio account was created, I was all set to go.
Two days prior arrival
An email from Domio followed my booking. Sounds like a plan.
A day prior arrival
My early check-in request was followed by a lovely email from the customer’s support: “I just wanted to follow up on your early check-in request. We did have a guest stay in the home last night, so our team does need to prepare the home for your stay. It will likely be ready at 4 PM.” A day before my arrival, a friendly email reminder with some how-to tips. I also received a text with a link to a web site so I could register my guests, download an app for key entry, and check out the rules and conditions.
Hours before the check-in time, I received a text message saying that the key entry to my unit was sent to your JustIn phone app and my unit number. Stay connected, however, if you only have WIFI access, you won't receive the key; having this info also sent by email would be much appreciated.
Accessing Your Domio
We arrived at Domio Wynwood. Stunning Studio + Den Suite | Laundry + Pool + Gym was all ready. And it is just impressive.
It is my first-time visit to Miami, and I am entirely unfamiliar with the neighborhood. Getting to the Domio Wynwood from Miami International Airport was an easy and uncomplicated 20-minute car ride. Wynwood is an eclectic and diverse: from graffitis to upscale design boutiques. I enjoyed Peter Tunney’s exhibition and his headlines, such as “DON’T PANIC,” “BELIEVE,” “GRATTITUDE” and “CHANGE THE WAY YOU SEE EVERYTHING.”
My unit is a brand new two-bedroom fully equipped, furnished, and beautifully decorated, impeccable luxury condo on the third floor of a 5-floor building. Trust me, I have stayed in upscale hotels from Tokyo, Hong Kong, Russia, Germany, and California — Domio is undoubtedly a five-star stay.
It takes a lot of effort to furnish, decorate, and equip an aparthotel. Attention to the details is a necessity when making sure the guests are comfortable. Comfortable beds to welcome up to 6 people, all-cotton white bedding and towels, a fully equipped kitchen with dishwasher, stove, microwave, coffee maker, iron, hairdryer, and my favorite high ceilings— the list is long. Washer and dryer are included and well appreciated by light packing digital nomads. High-speed internet to connect a maximum of 3 devices, a smart TV. Heaven? It is.
My personal favorite is a world-class gym ( spent 45 minutes most of the days). The 6-floor is a rooftop swimming pool with a lounge, and party and seating areas equipped with BBQ grills, summer kitchen, and an internal mezzanine-level closed outdoor space for kiddies to run around.
The condo has every tiny thing covered for your untroubled and carefree stay: coffee pods, small packages of olive oil, beautiful dishes and pots, cutlery, towels, garbage bags, shampoos, and shower gels.
Small things …
The keyless entry into the unit is facilitated by Justin Mobile and sent to a mobile phone number linked to your Domio account. If you try to download the app from Domio link, you are directed to the iPhone version only ( the link is barely visible). For the Android version of the app, here is the link. To identify your unit number, you must have access to a mobile network to be able to receive your unit number; otherwise, ask the friendly reception staff.
Sharing the mobile entry key with my guest seemed a bit complicated, so I decided to ask for a regular access card for my guest.
Recycling — I wish I knew how to dispose of recyclable items while vacationing. Still, I located a regular garbage chute available on every floor.
Staying at Domio feels like home ( “dom” means “home” in Russian). I seriously can not wait until Domios are in Europe, Japan, and Asia.
Goodbye, Wynwood Domio, till we meet again. I am never looking back to a hotel again; I will be coming back to Domio.
